LETTER: Outlook should have more front page photos of wildlife, nature

LETTER: If a picture says a thousand words, the Outlook’s cover isn't saying much about what should be of the greatest importance in the Bow Valley.

Well, it’s been over two years since I first wrote to the paper wondering why the Outlook has so very few photos of wildlife on the cover. The photos of wildlife continue to be scarce. Now in the June 13 edition of the Outlook, the tragic death of Nakoda (bear No. 178), arguably a world famous bear, and she can’t even get a cover photo.

Yes, it is a front page story, but no front page photo. What is the aversion to wildlife and nature shots on the cover of a mountain town newspaper?

People are everywhere. We can look at a city paper for pictures of people. Even tourists don’t come here to see people. To me, the lack of wildlife and nature photos on the cover is a sad statement underlying the fact that the area's wildlife is becoming less and less important than people in the Bow Valley.

Soon, we will be another suburb of Calgary having squeezed everything beautiful out. If a picture says a thousand words, the Outlook’s cover isn't saying much about what should be of the greatest importance in the Bow Valley.
