Jean Sampson

Jean Anne Sampson (nee Lewis) passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years. Born, in Canmore, Alberta, Jean was the youngest child of Evan and Jean Lewis. She grew up in a large and loving family with 8 brothers and 2 sisters.

At a young age, Jean met the love of her life, James Duane Sampson. The two were married on October 25, 1952, and had 70 loving years of  marriage. Together they built a life centered around family.

Jean is survived by her brother David Lewis (Jean), sister-in-law Gayle Lewis, her daughters Janey (Heinz) and Judy Anne (Joe); her sons John (Karen) and Jay (Rosemary); her daughter-in-law Cathy Mackenzie; her grandchildren Jesse (Nancy), Amanda (Chris), Janet (Todd), Christopher (Bonita), Andrew (Krista), Sarah (Nik), Jasmine (Izaak), and Owen; as well as her great-grandchildren Lily, Jaxon, Jordan, Madison, Connor and Evan, with two more great-grandchildren expected soon. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband, James Sampson, her eldest son, Evan James Sampson (Jimmy) and her grandson, Jason Sampson. Numerous other family members are not mentioned but are certainly not forgotten.

Jean was an active and dedicated member of her community. She was a lifelong member of the Legion and served for many years as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She played a significant role in coordinating Canmore’s 1st of July parade and the day’s festivities and volunteered at the Highland Games for many years. Her faith was deeply rooted in the United Church, where she attended and supported services as often as she could.

Jean’s love for her family extended beyond her immediate children and grandchildren. She made it a priority to gather her family for traditional holiday dinners, where laughter and love were always in abundance. Her kitchen table was often the center of activity, with Jean challenging her loved ones to games of Scrabble and various board games.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Saturday August 24,  2024 at 2:00 pm at the Canmore Legion where friends and family are invited to gather and honour her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Canmore Hospital in Jean’s memory.

Our most heartfelt appreciation to the Calgary Foothills Medical Center, Canmore Hospital, Bow River Lodge and the Cedars Villas for the exceptional care provided.
