LETTER: Banff Ave. pedestrian zone a positive for community

LETTER: Pedestrianization isn’t about attracting tourists, it’s about creating community in our town. Those of us who live here, benefit from it as much, or more, than visitors.

As a spokesperson for the Friends of A Better Banff Ave, I’d like to encourage the community to vote yes and support the Banff Ave pedestrian zone in the upcoming August vote. We launched our campaign, A Better Banff Ave, to raise awareness of the pedestrian zone’s benefits and the joy it brings to locals and visitors.

Pedestrianization isn’t about attracting tourists, it’s about creating community in our town. Those of us who live here, benefit from it as much, or more, than visitors.

Transforming the downtown into a pedestrian-friendly zone has created a more enjoyable space for people to encounter one another and to just hang out together. While the current version might not be perfect, voting yes to keep the pedestrian zone provides an opportunity for Banff to further improve the experience for everyone. Let’s work to evolve and improve it, not eliminate it.

Regardless of your position, we urge everyone to cast their vote. Be it through the advance polls, the special ballot, or on voting day, every voice is pivotal in the decision-making process.

Allan Buckingham,

Banff
