LETTER: Please avoid discarding cigarette on Bow Valley trails

LETTER: I'm not looking to create a divisive issue – like the world needs more – but a question to all of us who either call the mountains home, visit regularly or just pass through: how can we let folks know it's not okay to discard cigarette butts on the trails?

I’m not looking to create a divisive issue – like the world needs more – but a question to all of us who either call the mountains home, visit regularly or just pass through: how can we let folks know it's not okay to discard cigarette butts on the trails?

I’ve noticed a fair share in the last year at trailheads and deep in the trails throughout Kananaskis Country but this morning, on Montane Traverse near Canmore, was the first one I’ve seen while the wildfire danger is at very high.

The foreshadowing of this absolutely terrifies me. I’m actually typing this on my phone from the side of the trail.

Is there a way for Canmore to link up with Banff and Kananaskis and the MD of Bighorn to kindly, but very seriously spread this message? Or are there sub-communities that could collectively do it through social media?

A huge please and thank you.
