Outdoor concert coming to rock and roll Canmore

SRV and The Classic Rockers band will be jamming out in the beer garden at the Grizzly Paw’s taproom location on Friday (Aug. 18).

CANMORE – Don’t put those folk festival chairs and blankets in storage just yet because the Stevie Ray Vaughn (SRV) and The Classic Rockers will be blasting some classic tunes in an outdoor concert.

The tribute band will be jamming out in the beer garden at the Grizzly Paw’s taproom on Sunday (Aug. 18). Gates open at 1 p.m. with music starting at 2 p.m.

“It’s going to be a really amazing afternoon of music that everyone really loves to listen to and be a part of so I’m really looking forward to it,” said Banff’s John Goulart, vocalist and guitarist in the band.

Calgary’s Diva Dynamics will be joining the stage to singing alongside the rock band.

“A lot of people that I really enjoy playing with are going to be performing with me and doing some of my favourite music,” said Goulart.

The tribute band won’t stop at Vaughn’s music though, and will be playing classic tunes by Steely Dan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jimi Hendrix and ZZ Top, among others.

“It’s a way of melding some of my favourite classic rock with some of my state got favourite Stevie Ray Vaughan tunes,” said Goulart.

Goulart has been performing in tribute to Vaughan who inspired him in his youth, and he will even be strumming on a replica of Vaughan’s guitar.

“When I was in university, I was a big fan of the Stevie Ray Vaughan. I loved his music. I thought he was one of the most talented guitarists in the world,” said Goulart.

The SRV and The Classic Rockers also feature Jon Frolick on the drums, Darren Reeder on the bass and Susanne Morley on keyboard.

The band will be joined on stage with additional special guests Sonya Frebold on fiddle, Arif Boga on guitar and Jim Hamilton on vocals and keyboard.

The brewery asks people walk, bike or take transit as there will be no parking on site.

“Just come out, have a good time, have a burger and a beer, and everybody's going to have a great time,” said Goulart.

Goulart lived in Banff as a musician for the past three decades.

“I’m really indebted to the community here for the support that they've given me over the years,” he said.

On a regular basis Goulart can be found strumming chords at the Malcolm Hotel in Canmore and the Canmore Hospital.

Goulart has also been conducting the Bow Valley Chorus for the past 25 years.

“We do a very specialized brand of music that’s been supported by the community over the last 25 years and I’m very, very indebted to the community for all the support that we’ve had,” said Goulart.

The Bow Valley Chorus will be celebrating is 25th anniversary in May 2025.
